Member Code of Conduct & Safety Agreement
Version: 1.0
Effective Date: October 11, 2026
Applies to: All Sunnyside members participating in Sunnyside meetups, events, programs, digital spaces, and other community activities or interactions connected to Sunnyside.
We know this is a lot to read, and you might find some parts boring. But please take the time to read every single sentence carefully. If you can, read it aloud, and consider reading it more than once so you can remember what it means.
This Code of Conduct is more than a list of rules. It is a promise to bring your best self to Sunnyside: to treat others with respect, practice kindness, mind your manners, respect personal boundaries, and help make everyone feel safe and welcome.
These rules are here to protect you, the other guests, and the Sunnyside members and families you will meet. Before you sign, make sure you understand what you are agreeing to and what is expected of you.
It's okay to ask questions. If you come across a word, rule, or situation you don't understand, ask your parent or guardian, or a Sunnyside organizer, to explain it to you. Never sign something you don't understand.
Thank you for taking this seriously. We look forward to seeing you in our community!
-- Gen Millare, Co-Founder & CEO
1. Our Standard: Social Grace™
At Sunnyside, Social Grace means kindness you practice.
We respect people, read the room, and leave things better than we found them.
Our community brings together children, teens, parents, and families. Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and welcome. Being a member comes with shared responsibilities toward the community and its people.
This agreement explains the standards every member is expected to follow.
Every Sunnyside member is expected to treat others with kindness, respect, and consideration, regardless of age, background, personality, interests, or level of familiarity.
Members must not engage in bullying, harassment, threats, intimidation, discrimination, humiliation, mocking, deliberate exclusion, provocation, targeting, or retaliation. Hurtful jokes, insults, and vulgar language that make others feel unsafe or unwelcome are not acceptable.
If someone tells you that your words or actions make them uncomfortable, take it seriously. Do not dismiss their feelings, argue them out of their boundaries, or retaliate against them for speaking up.
These standards apply to all Sunnyside interactions, including events, programs, meetups, digital spaces, group chats, and direct messages.
Good intentions do not automatically make an action acceptable. If someone tells you that your behavior is making them uncomfortable, take it seriously.
3. Cultural Safety, Appropriate Content, and Respectful Dialogue
Sunnyside is a community for homeschool families. Members are expected to help maintain an environment that is safe, welcoming, age-appropriate, and respectful of different backgrounds and beliefs.
Members must not share sexually explicit, graphic, vulgar, or age-inappropriate content, or introduce mature topics in ways that are unsuitable for the people present.
Members must not use Sunnyside events, programs, digital spaces, group chats, or member relationships to pressure others into religious or political participation, recruit them into outside groups, or promote personal agendas without prior authorization.
Confrontational debates, rumors, gossip, and disruptive advocacy that undermine the safety or harmony of the community are not acceptable.
These standards regulate conduct and content within Sunnyside. They do not prohibit members from having their own identities, beliefs, or opinions. Respectful expression is different from coercion, solicitation, harassment, or disruptive promotion.
Sunnyside organizers may ask members to stop a conversation, remove content, or redirect an activity when necessary to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
When in doubt, keep it respectful, age-appropriate, and consistent with Sunnyside's standards.
4. Romantic Relationships and Public Displays of Affection
Having a crush on or admiring someone is a normal human experience. Having feelings is not the problem; pursuing a romantic relationship within Sunnyside is not permitted.
Sunnyside events, programs, meetups, and digital spaces must not be used to pursue, facilitate, or conceal romantic relationships between members. Public displays of affection (PDA) are not permitted during Sunnyside activities or in Sunnyside spaces.
Direct Messages (DMs) and Private Contact
Members must obtain their parent or guardian's permission before initiating a private message or direct message (DM) to another Sunnyside member of the opposite sex.
Being a Sunnyside member does not automatically make someone your friend or mean they consent to receiving personal messages. Members must respect others' boundaries, avoid unwanted or repeated contact, and stop contacting someone who asks them to stop or does not welcome the interaction.
Members must not arrange secret encounters, pressure others into private interactions, or circumvent parent or guardian permission requirements.
These rules apply to all members, regardless of age or gender. Concerns will be handled through Sunnyside's established safety and conduct procedures.
Do not assume permission.
Respect other people's privacy and boundaries. Never pressure someone to reply, continue a conversation, or engage in private communication they do not want.
These expectations are intended to help members build friendships safely and respectfully, with appropriate parental guidance.
Public Displays of Affection (PDA)
🔥🔥 Public displays of affection (PDA) are not permitted during Sunnyside activities or within Sunnyside spaces. This includes kissing, intimate touching, and other romantic physical displays that are inconsistent with our community standards.
Members must not use Sunnyside events to arrange secret romantic encounters, pressure another participant into a relationship, or circumvent applicable parent/guardian permissions and Sunnyside policies.
These standards apply equally to guests and members. Sponsorship, friendship, prior attendance, or a personal relationship with a member does not create an exception.
Any concern will be handled under Sunnyside's established safety, conduct, and access procedures, with appropriate attention to the facts and the privacy of those involved.
5. Personal Space, Boundaries, and Consent
🔥🔥 Every person has the right to their own personal space and boundaries.
• Touch, hug, grab, or physically interact with someone without appropriate consent.
• Continue touching, approaching, teasing, or pursuing someone after they have said no or shown clear discomfort.
• Follow, corner, stalk, pressure, or intimidate another participant.
• Pressure anyone into conversations, activities, photographs, or interactions they do not want.
• Treat silence, politeness, or a lack of resistance as permission.
Respect a person's boundaries the first time. If you are unsure, ask. If someone says no, stop.
6. Authorized Participation and Access
Sunnyside meetups, events, programs, and certain digital spaces have specific access requirements. Membership does not automatically grant access to every activity or restricted space. Members may participate only in activities and spaces for which they are eligible and authorized.
• Provide accurate information. Ensure that information submitted to Sunnyside, including registration and participation details, is truthful and up to date.
• Follow registration and authorization requirements. Register for activities as required and participate only in events, programs, and spaces for which they are eligible and authorized.
• Follow event instructions. Comply with reasonable instructions from authorized Sunnyside organizers, Sunnyside Guardians, and designated safety monitors.
• Respect designated areas and supervision requirements. Remain in authorized areas and follow applicable rules for leaving an activity or venue, particularly when participating as a minor.
• Observe age and participation requirements. Follow age limits, eligibility criteria, parent/guardian permissions, and other requirements established for specific activities.
• Respect access boundaries. Do not enter restricted spaces, access private digital channels without authorization, or use another person's account or credentials.
• Obtain authorization before bringing guests. Do not bring friends, relatives, or other additional participants to a Sunnyside activity without prior approval through the applicable guest access process.
Membership is not unlimited access.
Registration, payment, friendship with another member, or previous attendance does not automatically authorize participation in every future activity. Event-specific eligibility, authorization, and safety requirements continue to apply.
Members must not present unofficial gatherings or activities as official Sunnyside events without prior authorization.
7. Digital Conduct and Privacy
The same standards of respect, consent, and responsibility apply online in Circle™, TinyVill™, and other Digital environments, as they do in person.
• Cyberbully, harass, threaten, impersonate, or publicly humiliate another person.
• Share private messages, contact details, addresses, or other personal information without appropriate permission.
• Secretly record private conversations or use screenshots, recordings, or messages to embarrass, intimidate, or harm someone.
• Use group chats, social media, or other digital spaces to misrepresent Sunnyside's approval or bypass its access and safety rules.
These standards apply to Sunnyside's digital spaces, including member channels, group chats, and direct messages connected to Sunnyside relationships and activities.
Members should report concerning online behavior to an authorized Sunnyside representative so that it can be addressed appropriately.
If you encounter concerning behavior online involving a Sunnyside member or guest, report it to an authorized Sunnyside representative.
8. Photographs, Videos, and Recording
Members' privacy matters, especially when children and teens are involved.
Before taking or sharing identifiable photographs or videos of another person, members must obtain the required permission. Appropriate parent or guardian consent must be obtained when minors are involved.
Members must not secretly photograph, film, or record others where consent or privacy protections are required. Images, videos, recordings, screenshots, or other captured content must not be shared or used to embarrass, intimidate, harass, or otherwise harm another person.
Attendance at a Sunnyside event, program, or activity does not automatically constitute consent to be photographed, recorded, or featured in promotional content.
Where Sunnyside requires a separate photo or video consent process, members must follow it. Agreeing to this Code of Conduct does not constitute a photo, video, or recording release.
🔥💀 This agreement does not itself grant permission to use anyone's image.
9. Contact and Relationships Outside Sunnyside Events
Sunnyside wants friendships to develop in respectful, age-appropriate ways, without pressure or unwanted contact.
For interactions arising from Sunnyside events, programs, or community relationships, members must not solicit or exchange phone numbers, email addresses, social media accounts, or other personal contact details with minors, or initiate off-platform contact with them, without the required parent or guardian permission.
Members must not pressure anyone to share contact information or arrange private meetups by using a Sunnyside friendship or activity as a pretext.
Sunnyside organizers will not facilitate off-platform contact involving minors without the appropriate permission.
These rules are not a blanket prohibition on friendships. If a child wants to stay in touch with another participant, the appropriate parent or guardian permission must be obtained.
Members must also follow the direct-message and personal-contact requirements in Section 4 of this Code.
10. Safety Checks and Organizer Instructions
Members must cooperate with reasonable, consistently applied safety procedures communicated before or during a Sunnyside event or activity.
These procedures may include attendance checks, designated-area rules, emergency procedures, and other reasonable measures intended to protect participants.
If a bag inspection is announced as a condition of entry, members must understand that agreeing to the inspection is a condition of admission. Anyone who declines may be refused entry. Any inspection must be conducted respectfully and within the scope of the stated safety procedure.
Weapons, dangerous items, illegal substances, threats, and violence are prohibited at Sunnyside activities and events.
Members must promptly report safety concerns, injuries, boundary violations, or other incidents to an authorized Sunnyside Guardian, organizer, or their parent or guardian, as appropriate.
Members must follow reasonable safety instructions from authorized Sunnyside organizers and designated safety monitors.
11. Honesty and Accountability
Members are expected to be honest, accept reasonable feedback, and take responsibility for their words and actions.
Members must not provide false or misleading information, conceal relevant safety concerns, interfere with a safety or conduct review, or retaliate against anyone who raises a concern or reports possible misconduct.
When reviewing a concern, Sunnyside may consider relevant information, including organizer observations, reports, and parent or guardian feedback. A report alone does not automatically establish that misconduct occurred.
Sunnyside will seek to handle concerns fairly, consider the relevant facts, and respect the privacy of the people involved.
12. Consequences and Continued Access
Sunnyside may take appropriate action when a member violates this agreement or presents a safety concern.
Depending on the circumstances, actions may include:
• A reminder, correction, or warning.
• Restrictions on participation in certain activities, programs, or digital spaces.
• Removal from an event or activity.
• Temporary suspension of membership or access privileges.
• Termination of membership or permanent exclusion from Sunnyside.
Serious safety concerns may require immediate protective action without a prior warning. Where appropriate and safe, Sunnyside may seek relevant information from the people involved before making a longer-term decision.
Sunnyside's priority is the safety and well-being of its members and families. Membership does not guarantee continued access, and members are expected to uphold the standards of this agreement as a condition of continued participation.
By acknowledging this agreement, I confirm that:
📝 Parent/Guardian Acknowledgement
Parent/Guardian Acknowledgment: Required where applicable for a minor. Parent/guardian consent and any event-specific permissions will be collected separately where needed.
Important: This acknowledgment records agreement to the rules. It is not an admission approval, membership agreement, blanket photo release, or blanket consent for transportation or other activities.
